Sheila Laurant

February 29, 1960 — November 15, 2022

Sheila “She She” Cryer Laurant peacefully entered into eternal rest on the morning of
November 15, 2022 at the age of 62. Born in New Orleans to Cleveland Cryer, Sr. and Rosine
Baham Cryer of Lacombe, Sheila was raised in Lacombe and has been a resident of Slidell since
the early 1980s. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 42 years, Elson
Laurant, Jr. of Slidell and her son, Sean Laurant of Slidell.
Sheila is survived by her daughter, Racquel Haynes (Donny), son Elson Laurant III (Rainbow),
and son Louis Laurant, as well as 7 grandchildren – Hailey, Kobe and Ethan Haynes; Elson IV,
Karmen and Trenton Laurant; and Kaidyn Laurant. She also leaves behind to cherish her
memory beloved siblings Betty Alexis, Irene Silve, Crystal Daughtry, Loretta Cryer, Cleveland
“Buck” Cryer, Jr. and Terry Silve and their families as well as a host of extended family and
many treasured friends.
Sheila’s life was full of love and excitement – her family fondly remembers her bold courage
and fun-filled wild streak, doing things they were scared to do, even if she would get in trouble
for doing so. Simply put, she was a free spirit who lived her life the way she wanted to. A day
well spent for her would be surrounded by family and friends, just visiting, probably sitting on
the porch and definitely having lively conversation. She had a knack for getting people to come
visit with her – maybe it was the food she’d cooked, sometimes a card or dice game, perhaps
some music and dancing. Something in her spirit was magnetic to those who love her, but what
she loved the most was not the food, games, music or libations, but rather the time spent with
the people she loved.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. Anna Pou, St. Tammany Health System ICU
and staff, St. Tammany Health System Hospice, hospice nurse Susan, hospice social worker
Haley, hospice aides Tawani, Danisha and Regie, and the staff at Lakeshore Manor in Slidell.
A celebration of Sheila’s life will take place on Saturday December 3, 2022 at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Lacombe, LA – visitation with the family starting at 9am, funeral mass
starting at 11am, fellowship and repast to follow at Roquette Hall (on church grounds).
