Obituary

Peggy Ann Chapoton ended her three-year battle with cancer on December 26th, 2020. In the company of her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Chapoton; daughter, Sheerie Chautin; son, Lee Chapoton, and father, Louis Manito, she passed peacefully in the comfort of her home in Slidell, LA at the age of 73.

Peggy was born in New Orleans on September 5, 1947 to Helen and Louis Manito, and was the middle of three children. Growing up two blocks from each other on the same street in New Orleans, Peggy eventually married her “best friend”, Larry. They moved to Northshore Beach, Slidell on July 4, 1978, maintaining the same residence to this day. During their 50 years of faithful marriage she remained an exceptional mother and wonderful wife; remaining true to those roles until going to be with her Father in heaven.

Peggy was one of a kind. She was very blunt, always telling you what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear. She could make you laugh until you cried, and her gumbo recipe was unmatched. Peggy and Larry were the best dynamic duo anyone has ever seen. She could light up a room anywhere she went. Being an incredible mother, and “Granny” to her grandchildren was something she was particularly spectacular at. To say that she will be missed is an understatement. Coming across a woman like Peggy only happens once in a lifetime. She was the definition of strength and integrity, especially throughout her battle with cancer. To know her was to love her, and I’m sure everyone who knew her would agree. She had a light inside of her that will never die out. Those who were blessed enough to have met this amazing woman will never be the same. Her family and friends continue to carry Peggy in their hearts.

Peggy is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Manito, and brother LJ. She is survived by her father, Louis Manito; sister Cynthia Tujague (Joe); husband, Larry Chapoton; daughter, Sheerie Chautin (Todd); son, Lee Chapoton (Amy); granddaughter, Rachel Snider; grandson, Kyle Snider; great grandson, Jude Vallot; brothers-in-law, Louis Chapoton (Beverly); and Gene Chapoton (Sandy); sisters-in-law, Sharon Davis (Dave); Elaine Shubert (Michael); and Karen Chapoton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Legacy Hospice, especially Victoria, Nickie, Lucinda, and Marcia for their excellent care and support.

Due to the COVID pandemic, a private service will be held at a later date. Interment will follow at Southeast Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery, 34888 College Grantham Drive, Slidell, LA.
