Mary Pettus

March 23, 1948 — January 5, 2022

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Trahan Pettus on January 6th in Mandeville, Lousiana. Mary was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. In addition to her fondness of routines, Mary always found enjoyment in a good book, reminiscing of her childhood in New Orleans, watching a good Masterpiece series, caring for her grandchildren, and making crepes for those she loved. Mary spent the majority of her retirement years in the house she loved (Northborough, MA), feeding the birds in the backyard, enjoying long walks around town, and visiting the Senior Center and Public Library.

Mary was born on March 23, 1948 to parents Anna Fortier Trahan and Rivers Trahan in New Orleans, LA, where she attended Mount Carmel Academy. Mary met her husband, Timothy Jennings Pettus while attending University of Southwestern Louisiana. They married on January 26, 1968 and went on to have three children: Sarah Elizabeth Pettus (Troy) of Wellington, New Zealand; Timothy Jennings Pettus Jr (Jennifer) of Malaysia & Utah; and Stephen Fortier Pettus (Lindsey) of Cumberland, Maine.

Obtaining her BS from University Of Georgia and her MA in Library Science from University of Texas, Mary enjoyed a long career working as the head librarian at The Fay School and St. Marks School in Southborough, MA.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Jennings Pettus (1944 - 2020). She is survived by her loving children; her dearest sister Renee Giangrosso (Manderville, LA); her 5 cherished grandchildren Jaden, Sage, Yordanos, Anna, and Michael; and her loyal friend, Mary Lou.

A celebration of life will be held for Mary in both Massachusetts and Louisiana this summer, when her family can reunite safely from around the globe. If you would like to obtain information on her services or share condolences, please email MTPettus@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or The Northborough Public Library (northboroughlibrary.org) would be appreciated.
