Karen Lewis

Karen Appe Lewis, a bright light in the hearts of family and friends, passed away on December 21, 2020. Karen passed peacefully at her home in Saint Joseph, Louisiana. Karen fought courageously against cancer, a Glioblastoma, for nine months. During this difficult time, she was still able to bring and receive love from her family and friends who rallied around her.

Karen, born January 3, 1967, was a native of Covington, Louisiana and graduated Covington High in 1985. She attended LSU, Baton Rouge where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, graduating in 1986. She worked as a manager at Lewis Computer Services in Baton Rouge before moving to Lafayette and becoming Vice President of Budgets and Statistical Data Analysis for LHC Group. In 2009 she stepped out on her own becoming a highly successful independent business consultant.

Being very civic minded, Karen served two years on the Tensas Parish Police jury. In Addition to this she was active in promoting the Saint Joseph Street Market, a venue to assist small craft vendors in selling their goods. Before becoming ill, Karen was an active Bridge player. She immersed herself in any task she took on, even where her pets were concerned. She loved dogs, her favorite breed being Lacy. She worked on the National Lacy Dog Registry and served on the Board of Directors at the National Lacy Dog Association.

She is preceded in death by grandparents Pete and Vallie LaCroix and Edward and Odette Appe. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Lewis; parents, Gerald and Sylvia Appe; siblings, David (Alicia) and Scott (Misty) Appe; nephews DJ and Luke Appe; niece Brooklyn Appe; and many cousins. She will be greatly missed and remembered by all.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in the Chapel of Bagnell & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. with visitation from 3:00 p.m. until service time.
