Joseph Anthony Schweitzer, a devoted family man, faithful Catholic, and resident of Destrehan, LA died on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at the age of 43, in the presence of family members while staying in Roswell, GA.
Joey is lovingly remembered by his wife, Adele and their 11 children, Jacob, Nathan, Benjamin, Elizabeth (Ella), Joshua, Alex, Audrey, Anne (Annie), Jude, Jonah, Samuel and five children he joins in eternity: Meredith, Julianna, Max, Molly, and Faith. Joey is also survived by his parents, George and Mary, and his younger brother, Michael Anthony (Shelly). He is preceded in death by his brother, David Anthony. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Daniel and Janice Hynes, his sister-in-law, Carlie Garza (Everado), brother-in-law, Jason Hynes, and loving nieces and nephews.
Joey was born in Metairie, LA on November 5, 1976. He graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School in 1995 and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1999. Over the years, he worked as an accountant, youth minister, worship leader, and high school theology teacher. However, Joey was best known for the God-given gifts he shared as a joyful, faith-filled son, brother, loving husband and father. He delighted many with his theatrical and musical gifts, writing skits, playing creative games, and singing songs that brought joy and light. Above all things, he loved God and offered his gifts and his suffering to honor God. As Joey heroically endured his illness for many years, he continued to embrace life and those he loved with that same joy and light. To the end, Joey faithfully loved his wife, Adele, and all of their children and unceasingly witnessed to the gift of life in all its stages. Joey’s family would like to offer thanks to all who have journeyed with them, offering prayers and support.
Visitation will be at Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Kenner, LA on Tuesday, October 6 at 11:00 am. Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrehan, LA, immediately following.
