Jacquelyn “Jackie” Donnaway Courtney was born October 28th, 1940 in New Orleans to John J. Donnaway and Thelma O’Connor Donnaway. Preceded in death by her husband Alfred L. Courtney, she was a devoted mother to her three children: Donna C. Laurich, Charleen and Alfred “Al” Jr. (LaDona). Jackie was the beloved sister to Joyce Vodanovich, Janice Held and the late Joan Kimball. She is survived by her brother-in-law Guy Courtney. Jackie was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother as well as a loving aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. Known by many as “Granny,” she was renowned for her quick-witted humor and love of children. She will be dearly missed. Ms. Courtney died in her home, surrounded by family, after many years of suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). She adored her granddaughter Elizabeth Laurich, who was her primary caregiver throughout the duration of her illness; she took great pride in telling everyone how well she was cared for by her family. Jackie grew up in New Orleans and attended St. Henry’s School until 1954, graduated from Alcée Fortier in 1958, and retired from First NBC. A Mass celebrating Jacquelyn’s life will be held for relatives and close friends at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rivertown in Kenner on Friday, July 9th; the visitation will begin at 10, followed by a mass at 11.
