Gina (Jane) Oertling

Gina (Jane) Maddalozzo Oertling entered into eternal peace on May 21, 2020 at the age of 73with her daughter and her husband by her side. Gina was a native of Chicago, Illinois where she was born on September 2, 1946 to Bruno and Elaine Maddalozzo. She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1968 and eventually settled in Goodbee, Louisiana where she has resided for the past 32 years with her husband, Jim Oertling whom she married in May of 2000. Gina had a deep love for animals, especially horses and dogs. Her love for horses was what brought her to Goodbee where she created a small horse farm for herself. There she was able to surround herself with the many different kinds of animals she loved. Gina enjoyed watching football, baseball and horse racing. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, she never missed a Kentucky Derby and she knew all the stats and players during football season. In the last ten or so years she enjoyed competing in Fantasy Football leagues. Gina loved her two grandsons, whom she affectionately nicknamed “The Amazing Jon Ross” and “The Incredible Noah”. She was an avid reader and she loved the knowledge she could retain from books. She loved to share the books she read and was known for gifting many books to friends and family that were related to spirituality or personal growth. She was a devout Catholic and loved to share the Catholic faith. She knew a multitude of Catholic Saints and the history behind each one. In the latter part of her life she was plagued with chronic health issues, however her faith kept her hopeful and she never stopped looking for answers and solutions to her illnesses.  She is survived by her husband Jim Oertling, her daughter Julie Welch (Jon) and grandsons Jon Ross and Noah, brother Charles (Debbie) Maddalozzo and Robert (Tina) Maddalozzo. She is preceded in death by her parents Bruno and Elaine Maddalozzo.  A mass will be held in her honor at St. Peter Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 1:30 in Covington, Louisiana.
