Fredrick Lawshe' Sr.

November 13, 1942 — September 7, 2018

The world lost a phenomenal pilot, friend, husband, father, and grandfather when Fredrick Eugene Lawshe’ Sr.’s life was taken too soon on Friday, September 7, 2018.With a quick wit, sarcastic tongue, and an opinion on everything, Fred will be remembered as the life of any occasion with a bigger-than-life presence.  Not only could he spin a great tale (he always said “never let the truth get in the way of a good story”), he had many life experiences to draw on.  After spending “11 years, 9 months, and 18 days in Uncle Sam’s Canoe Club,” (Navy) as a communications tech, he worked in the oilfield as a chemical salesman, using a floatplane as his “car” to visit customers for 25 years, after which he began his own company.  After receiving an Associate’s Degree in Aviation Maintenance from Delgado, he went to work for Lockheed Martin until his retirement in 1995.  His retirement didn’t slow him down.  Using his maintenance knowledge and his Inspector license, he bought airplanes with “some assembly required,” fixed them up, sold them, and then started all over again. His retirement was full.  He always had projects going, whether it be airplanes, motorcycles, building things around the house, or simply riding his tractor around the yard.  He never slowed down. Fred is pre-deceased by his daughter Donna Marie McKinley.  He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Randy Adams Lawshe’; his children Tina Thomas (Mike), Fred Lawshe’ Jr. (Vikki), Corinna Hayden (Randy), and Cliff Lawshe (Michele); 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service is planned for Thursday, September 13 at New Zion Baptist Church in Covington, with visitation between 10:00-12:00 and the service to begin at 12:00; fellowship reception immediately following.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to either the Heart Association, Breast Cancer, or the Vietnam Veterans Association.
