Charles Coleman

After a valiant battle with liver cancer, Charles passed away peacefully on May 16, 2019 with his wife Renee at his side. Charles Coleman was born November 14, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, second born to Norris William Coleman and Florence Maurice Coleman of Philadelphia, Pa. Charles graduated from William Penn Charter high school, Philadelphia, Pa in 1960. He attended Susquehanna University, Penn State University and graduated from Disney School of Management. In 1962 Charles joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served until 1966, then served in the Navy Reserves until 1968. In 1967 he joined the management team with Household Finance Corporation. In 1970 he entered the Automotive industry in Richmond, Va as a business manager with Universal Ford and was subsequently employed by various automotive dealerships until 2008. In September 2005 Charles moved to Metairie to assist Veterans Ford and the area with the recovery after Hurricane Katrina. Charles also created an automotive consulting company and was CEO of Coleman Consultants, INC until 2014. Charles joined Sam’s Club as the membership coordinator in 2014. In the last several years Charles has focused his efforts on volunteering for Kairos Prison Ministry, where he served inside the prisons and was vice chairman of the Louisiana Kairos Torch program. He also volunteered at prison fellowship, one day with God ministries and mentoring young boys at the Methodist Children’s Home. Charles enjoyed serving in various churches as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director and at Yates Baptist Convention. Charles was one of the founders of the Bogue Banks Baptist Church in Carteret county, NC. Charles has been a certified member of AFIP (Association of Finance and Insurance Professionals) since it’s inception and he was a licensed insurance agent. Charles is survived by his wife of over 27 years, Renee Decker Coleman, four children, Elizabeth Ann Balser (Ray), Jennifer Marie Ondo (John), Matthew Norris Coleman (Kim) all of Richmond, Virginia and Charles Porter Coleman III (Kathy) of Brentwood California. Grandchildren Ryan and Nic Balser, Judson, Abbie and Kenny Coleman, Coleman Ondo, Trevor and Alyson Coleman. His sister Barbara Barlow and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Charles’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Forgiven Ministry Louisiana Camps, P.O.
