Captain Richard Edward Johnson, Sr, 87, of Lacombe, La, peacefully passed away on November 23, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones.

Captain Richard was born on July 13, 1934 to Ralph C Johnson (dec.) and Marie Bertaut Johnson (dec.)  in the city of New Orleans.

He went to work at a young age as a deckhand on towboats. After a stint in the army, he returned to push boating and worked his way up to captain. Captain Richard retired in his mid 70’s from Florida Marine Transport. During his career, he navigated every major waterway in the United States, along with rivers in both South and Central America. He loved being on the river as a push boat captain and his many adventures provided fascinating tales for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Captain Richard married Alice Dwyer on March 21, 1975. Their 46 years together were filled with love, laughter, adventure and a little bit of sass. They raised six children together and Richard’s love for his family was only matched by their love for him.

Richard was predeceased by his brother Ralph C Johnson; sisters, Grace Hursey, Marie (Bunny) Daniel and Francis Faciane; granddaughters, Ashley Nunley and Catherine Smith; grandson, Michael Sinclair.

He is survived by his beloved wife Alice; brothers Larry Johnson and Danny Johnson; sisters, Pat Luther and Diane Kusisto; children, Greg (Cheri) Audler, Stephanie (Doug) Nunley, Richard E. (Ann) Johnson, Jr., Rebecca J. (Randy) Caminita, Dottie J. (Joey) Boyack and Nina J. (Maurice) Fayard; grandchildren, Janell (Doug) Leigh, Heather Audler, Matthew (Janie) Gilbert-Audler, Nathan Audler, Alyson Audler, Angela Nunley, Nicholas Nunley, Jonathon (Melissa) Nunley, Randy Caminita, Jr., Ty Caminita, Maurice Fayard, Richard Fayard, Austin Fayard and Lisa Sinclair; great- grandchildren, Mackenzi Leigh, Grace Leigh, Ethan Leigh, Sutton Ladner, Madisyn Audler, Frank Caminita, Valarie Caminita and Alex Holt.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at 61040 West Springmill Dr., Lacombe, LA 70445 this Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the NRA or RNC
