Bernadette Czopek

April 10, 1952 — June 15, 2019

Bernadette (Ullrich) Czopek of Mandeville, LA went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2019 after her valiant battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family, she was 67 years old.Bernadette, also known as Mrs. Bernie, Bern, Mom, & Magi to her grandchildren, was born on April 10, 1952. Daughter of the late James Ullrich and Anna Venezio Ullrich, Bernie was one of 14 children. Growing up in Burbank, IL, Bernie made many friendships which she cherished and maintained through the years.  She married her childhood sweetheart, Chris Czopek, and the two moved to Louisiana where new roots were planted, starting with the birth of their son Zachary and then followed by the birth of their daughter Kristen. Bernie felt that one of her greatest achievements, in addition to her own children, was when she became a Grandmother.  Known as “Magi” to her grandchildren, Joseph Ryan and Anna Michelle, she treasured their daily visits and loved them very much. Bernie nurtured her family with a dual concept of Cajun Creole & Chicago Italian which led her to become a fantastic cook. She loved to prepare food and share it with all who entered her home. Bernie was also a talented beautician who loved making her clients feel and look good as well as being someone they could confide in.  She also had a love for crafting and making new art out of old treasures. Bernadette was an amazing woman who was beautiful inside and out.  She had a strong yet gentle soul.  Her funny and caring personality was immediately felt when in her presence.  She loved her family & friends; she loved life and the beauty in it. Bernie was one of a kind and loved by all.  She will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by her parents James & Anna and sisters Marge, Katie, Mickie, and Prudy.  Survived by her husband Chris, son Zachary Czopek, daughter Kristen Mufich (Ryan), grandchildren Joseph Ryan & Anna Michelle Mufich, her sisters: Anna, Lorrie, Patty, and Jackie, and her brothers: Al, Jim, Ray, Gene, and Ernie as well as her brother and sister in-laws and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation www.accrf.org or Angel Flight South Central www.angelflightsc.org.  A celebration of Bernadette’s life will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Lakeshore Church, 15261 Brewster Rd, Covington, LA, from 10 am - 1pm.
