Aline Noel

d. July 8, 2020

Aline Noel passed away peacefully in her daughter and son-in-law’s home on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 79 after a five year valiant battle with progressive Alzheimer’s disease.

Aline was born on December 21, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She graduated from John Mc Donogh Senior High School and married Roeling Noel at the age of 20.  She moved to St. Tammany Parish where she resided for 49 years.  In her youth, she was a member of The Square Dance Club, Beta Sigma Phi, a community volunteer, and a 4-H Leader teaching cooking and sewing to junior high aged children.

Aline was the daughter of the late August J. Gassiot, Sr. and the late Elizabeth (Zimmer) Gassiot and the foster-daughter of the late Louis J. Drouant, Sr. and the late Eunice (Rogers) Drouant.

She was the perfect mother to her only child, Jeanne (Noel) Wong and son-in-law Tommy Wong.

Loving sister to Robert “Bobby” R. Gassiot, Sr., the late Anthony “Tony” L. Gassiot (Judy); step-sister to the late August “Junior” Gassiot, Jr. (late Maria);  and foster-sister to Frederick L. Drouant (Joy), Beryl D. Neyrey (Richard), Louis J. Drouant, Jr., and Louis H. Drouant (late Kay).

Aline “Granny” is survived by her four granddaughters, Noel Wong Maestri (John), Megan Wong, Olivia Wong and Natalie Wong who were the light of her life. In addition, Aline “Gran Gran” is survived by her three great-grandchildren Aiden Maestri (12), Addilyn Maestri (8) and Asher Maestri (6) who were her pride and joy. Aline is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-law, godchildren, and friends who she considered her family and were such an important part of her life. Lastly, she is survived by the love of her life, Roeling J. Noel.  They were married for 30 years and divorced for 29 years.  Theirs was a special kind of love, always together and reignited in their senior years as if they never were apart. Aline faced her adversities with strength, determination and courage.  Her spirit will be missed in this world by her family and many friends.  Her exquisite taste and passion for decorating led Aline to open a successful interior decorating business in Covington in which she balanced her fun-loving nature with her eye for elegance to great effect.  Aline had a sensational personal style, a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious laugh and a generous heart.  Her clients soon became her friends.  A card or note meant so much more than an e-mail and a hug meant so much more than a handshake. Thank you to Anvoi Hospice Care but especially to Nurse Noelle, Sheronda, Chaplan Zeal and Amanda who became a part of our family for the last 6 months.  They walked us through every step and went above and beyond in Aline’s care especially with Covid-19 regulations.  Also, a very special thank you to Rev. Msgr. Frank J. Giroir and Rev. Pedro Prada, of St. Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville, who gave her the sacrament of the Last Rites and blessing, so she may find eternal life. There will be no funeral services at this time, but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

“A mother is your first friend, your best friend, your forever friend”.  You are our sunshine and the light of our lives. Shine brightly from the heavens above and give us strength until we meet again.  We will love you always and forever!
