William Henry “Bill” Ledbetter, Jr., age 82, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on May 26, 2025. He lived a life marked by devotion to his family, his country, and most profoundly, to his Lord.
Bill was born on January 2, 1943, and grew up in Cheneyville, LA. After graduating high school, he attended McNeese and LSU Law School. He then served in the Vietnam War as a Captain in the 56th APU, earning several commendations, including the National Defense Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Emblem.
One of Bill’s greatest joys was sharing his deep love for Jesus Christ. As a beloved Sunday School teacher, he brought Scripture to life with stories filled with laughter and sincerity. With a worn Bible always close at hand, he never missed an opportunity to share his faith. His love for Christ extended outside the church daily through acts of compassion, humility, and grace.
Another of Bill’s joys, golf, took him across the globe alongside his wife and lifelong friends. These adventures were cherished moments of fellowship and joy that reflected his zest for life.
Bill loved being with his family: his adored wife, Barbara Craig Ledbetter, his children and their spouses, Craig Bradford & Jenny Marino, William H. Ledbetter III (Trey), Jason & Jennifer Ledbetter, Ryan & Dian Ledbetter, and Heather B. & Jacques Peltier, and Jennifer Vay Ledbetter (deceased).
But Bill was never happier than when he was surrounded by his grandchildren, being “DaddaBoo” to Elizabeth, Abigail & her soon-to-be husband Will, Carter & his wife Savannah, Catherine, Isabelle, Taylor, Brooke, Jackson, William IV, Kylie, Rocco, and Lucca. His great-grandchildren—Brantley, Boden, and Evelyn—brought him immense joy in his later years.
Bill is also remembered with love by his brother Dr. Glenn Ledbetter & wife Laurie, and his sister Ann Ledbetter Roper & her husband Dan. Bill now joins in eternal rest those who went before him: his parents William H. and Curry Donald Ledbetter, his sister Sharon Ledbetter Hendrickson, and his daughter Jennifer Vay Ledbetter.
Bill’s legacy is one of quiet strength, enduring love, honorable service, and spiritual conviction. Those who knew him were blessed by his presence. May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him.
