With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we share the peaceful passing of Sister Ann Kateri Martinez, MSC on April 16, 2026. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 16, 1940, Sr. Ann was a gentle soul who touched the hearts of all who knew her. Her journey came to a serene end, just as she wished, enveloped in the night’s quiet embrace.
Ann was the daughter of Benedict and Eilola Campora Martinez, who preceded her in death along with her brother, Benedict S. Martinez, Jr. She is survived by her beloved brother Kenneth Martinez, Sr. (Patricia), sister-in-law Marilyn Martinez, and a devoted circle of nieces and nephews: Lisa Marshal, Christie Suslin, William Martinez, Kenny Martinez, Jr., and Susan Martinez DeBoisblanc. Her life was also enriched by the love of her great nieces and nephews, and the constant support of her Marianite Sisters.
In 1957, Ann answered God’s call and entered the Marianites of Holy Cross, making her final profession in 1963. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and commitment. Known for her quiet, steady presence, Sr. Ann was a beacon of calm and order. Though she often claimed to be reserved, her words were thoughtful and carried weight when shared freely among those she trusted.
Her educational journey began at Holy Angels Academy, followed by a Bachelor’s in Education from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She furthered her academic pursuits with a Master’s in Biology from The Ohio State University. Ever committed to serving others, Sr. Ann spent two years and many summers with the Air National Guard, contributing to the nation's defense.
Sr. Ann dedicated her professional life to education, nurturing young minds at St. Mary of the Angels, New Orleans; Holy Family, Port Allen; Central Catholic, Morgan City; Dominican High School, and Holy Angels Academy, both in New Orleans. She later shared her wisdom at Our Lady of Holy Cross College, both in teaching and administration, and concluded her active ministry with the Willwoods Community, impacting countless lives along the way.
Beyond her professional and spiritual commitments, Sr. Ann found joy behind the lens of a camera, capturing the beauty of the world and many significant events within the Louisiana Province of Marianites. Her methodical approach to life was reflected in her photography, each image a deliberate and cherished memory.
Sr. Ann's life will be celebrated in a service to be held on April 20, 2026, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Road. Visitation will begin at 9:00 followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00. Burial will take place at Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery on the Marianites’ property in Covington.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marianites of Holy Cross, honoring Sr. Ann’s legacy and her lifelong dedication to her faith community.
The Marianites extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers from BrightCare and St. Tammany Hospice for their compassionate support during Ann’s final journey. A special mention to Sr. Juanita Wood, Ann's MSC Sister and friend for over 65 years, who was lovingly by her side until the end.
Sister Ann Kateri Martinez lived a life of devotion, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace.
