Obituary

Sandra Simpson Broussard, 81, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Beloved wife of her late husband and high school sweetheart, James Donald Broussard. Loving mother of Robert and Brenda Broussard and cherished grandmother of Joshua Broussard.

She is also survived by her stepmother, Sakae “Michan” Simpson of Aiea, HI; sister, Keiko Simpson Hiraoka, and her children, Kallista Hiraoka Benedict, Keely Hiraoka, and Kaden Hiraoka, all of Honolulu, HI; brother, Ron Simpson; her sister-in-law, Chris Broussard, and nephew, Ben Broussard, of Minden, Louisiana; and her niece, Melissa Jones, of San Angelo, Texas. She also leaves a host of loving cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Russell Simpson and Sara E. Simpson; uncle, Albert Simpson; grandmother, Ada Strickland; niece, Rebecca Simpson; and her husband, James Donald Broussard.

Sandra was a fiercely tenacious and unafraid woman who, lovingly, ruled the family like a mob boss—commanding and utterly determined. She was not bossy; she just knew what you should be doing. At the same time, she would block traffic on a busy highway to rescue a one-legged cat. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, with a network of friends all over town. She loved antiquing and collecting jewelry—hunting for treasures was a big thrill. Yet, her greatest passion was her love of warm, fuzzy creatures, especially those of the feline persuasion. Her proudest professional achievements were realized as she co-founded Lagniappe of New Orleans, Ltd., which successfully served the souvenir industry for 35 years.

Though she has passed, Sandra will never be forgotten, and her stories and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather in her memory on Friday, April 10, at St. Rita Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy. Visitation begins at 9:30 AM, followed by Mass at 10:30 AM, celebrated by Father David Frank.
