Ronald "Ronnie" Thomas

May 16, 1951 — September 9, 2014

Ronald “Ronnie” Earl Thomas passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the age of 63.  Ronnie was born on Wednesday, May 16, 1951, and lived most of his life on Stafford Road in Covington, LA.  Ronnie is survived by 3 children, Stephanie Thomas, Channing Thomas, and Corey Thomas (Melissa); 11 grandchildren, Megan, Taylor, Kayce, Tristan, Clint, Grady, Grason, Anniston, Mason, Cameron, and the impending arrival of Zoey; 5 siblings, Ricky, Rodney, Gwen, Lynn, and Bill.  Preceded in death by parents, Donald Earl Thomas and Helen Strickland Aubert; and brothers, Michael Thomas and Damon Thomas.

Ronnie was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force and after proving his abilities he held a higher position than previously allowed for his rank.

He served in the United States Air Force until a swimming accident paralyzed him in August, 1976.

Prior to his accident, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and mechanic who enjoyed tennis and photography.

After his accident, he assisted with handicapped awareness in the Covington area.  He was also involved in RT Construction, radio controlled airplanes with Tammany Aero Club, Helicopters Unlimited, and Northshore TAP billiards. He was a leader in billiards education of those around him and brought an entirely new level to the quality of equipment and atmosphere. He also competed in National billiards competitions never allowing his paralysis to be a barrier.

He was well known for having wonderful impromptu parties including massive cookouts, great music, and shared with many loved ones.  All who knew him knew he had an open door policy, never met a stranger, was very generous, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
