Roland “Chico” Calix was born on September 19, 1941, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He passed away on March 18, 2026, in Covington, Louisiana. Roland lived a life full of determination and warmth, marked by his bright personality that made people feel good whenever they met him.
As a young man, Roland tried to join the military. However, before entering, he was required to have an X-ray and was diagnosed with tuberculosis. This led to him being hospitalized for a year and a half, and he was ultimately denied entry into the military. Despite this challenge, he continued forward with perseverance.
Roland attended public school in New Orleans, Louisiana, where his journey in America began. After being released from the hospital, he found employment with Imperial Shoes in New Orleans. Later, he worked at Naturalizer Shoe in Lakeside Mall. He was proud to have been the number one salesman in the country for Naturalizer Shoes in the late 1980s. In 1993, Roland chose a new path and became a full-time cab driver, a profession he held until his passing.
In 1984, Roland met the love of his life at the First Baptist Church in Kenner, Louisiana. Their relationship blossomed, and in 1985, they were married at the Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, Missouri. They shared forty years of marriage, a testament to their deep bond and commitment.
Roland is survived by his wife, Bobbi A. Calix his loving family and friends including his cousins Maria Smith (Roger), Nicholas Smith (Leslie), Matthew Smith (Angie), Tony Radillo (Heather), Cynthia Weinberger, Francis Lo Pilato (James), and Delores Albarado (Rickie); and sister-in-law Carol Calix, nieces Alicia Calix and Melissa Calix, and sister-in-law Tammy Ostrander (Tony); and many others who cherished his friendship and warmth
Roland was a man of many interests. He enjoyed collecting baseball caps, DVDs, CDs, shoes, and interesting vibrant men’s shirts. These collections reflected his lively spirit and love for colorful and unique things.
Roland was preceded in death by his son, David Delio Calix, his father, Julio Vallee, his mother, Rosalia Calix, and his brother, Julio Calix. Their memories remain close to his heart.
Visitors are welcome to pay their respects during a visitation at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, located at 75212 Lee Rd in Covington, Louisiana, on April 10, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at the same location from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
Roland “Chico” Calix will be remembered for his bright personality, his dedication to his work, and the joyful spirit he brought to all who knew him. His life story is one of resilience, love, and the simple joy of living fully.
