Roger Evan Broadwater

Roger Evan Broadwater went to his heavenly home on September 12, 2026. 

Born on October 22, 1942, in Charleston, West Virginia, Roger developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. He earned the Eagle Scout rank and displayed those values which emphasize moral strength and character, community service and leadership throughout his life.

He attended West Virginia University; graduated with a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Utah in 1966; and earned his MBA from Louisiana State University in 1971. He was a lifetime LSU fan.

Roger began his engineering career with Boeing at NASA’s Michoud assembly facility in New Orleans and was involved in the development of the Saturn V Rocket program that carried the first Americans to the moon. He later spent 30 years with AT&T, retiring as an engineering director. Following Hurricane Katrina, Roger returned to AT&T for two years to help restore communication systems. Roger served on both the supervisory committee and as Chairman of the Board at the Greater New Orleans Federal Credit Union for more than a decade. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Covington, where he served as a cameraman in the media group. He also enjoyed volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and with the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Roger was known for his warm “Hi there!” His greatest passion was his family. He was an avid hiker of the Appalachian Trail, and he enjoyed traveling, photography, and most especially skiing — from the Rockies to the Alps. Caring for his Folsom home and land was a great joy, and he could often be found tinkering in his barn.

Roger was affectionately and deeply devoted to his wife, Jo Ann Barreca Broadwater for 44 years of marriage. He was a loving father to Beth Broadwater; Ashley Shidler (Andrew); and Linda Morgan (Rob); and was a proud Paw Paw to Henry and Marion Shidler and Evan Morgan. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Helen Crum Broadwater; his brother, Brooks Broadwater; and his in-laws, Ignatius “Nash” and Laura Barreca.

The family offers special thanks to his friends, caregivers and Notre Dame Hospice for their exceptional care.

Roger left a legacy of love, kindness, and integrity, which will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at the Chapel of First Baptist Church Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, on September 17, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with a service following at 11 a.m.
