Robert Restrepo M.D.

Jul 10, 1962 — Jul 6, 2026

Folsom, Louisiana

Dr. Robert Restrepo passed away peacefully from a long illness in Folsom, Louisiana, at the age of 63, just days before his 64th birthday. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Robert lived a life defined by compassion, curiosity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved and served.

As a child, Robert immigrated with his family from Colombia to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he developed a love for soccer and helped his team win a Wisconsin state championship. His family later moved to Texas, where he completed high school before pursuing a career in medicine.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Robert earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas, attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and completed his internship, residency and MRI fellowship at Ochsner Clinic – Foundation in Louisiana. Throughout his career as a physician, he became known for his intelligence, kindness, and genuine compassion. His patients knew him not only as an exceptional doctor but as someone who truly cared for them as people.

Beyond medicine, Robert embraced life with many passions. He was an avid reader, accomplished writer, and author of three books. Music was a lifelong love that began in high school, where he played in a band with close friends. He later became a skilled guitarist, and his Christmas serenades became a cherished family tradition that brought joy to everyone around him. He also found happiness in his beloved pets and the lifelong friendships he treasured.

Robert will be remembered for his kindness, humor, generosity, loyalty, patience, and steadfast determination. He believed deeply in being true to himself, and that authenticity shaped every aspect of his life. Whether caring for a patient, writing a book, playing his guitar, or spending time with family and friends, he gave of himself wholeheartedly.

Above all, Robert was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Jill Restrepo; his children, William Scholzen and Alexandra Restrepo; his mother, Helga Restrepo; and his sister, Sonia Benton. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Roberto Restrepo.

Visitation followed by memorial service and internment will be held on Tuesday, July 14 from 11 AM – 1 PM at Bagnell and Sons funeral home located at 75212 Hwy 427 Covington, LA 70435.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Robert's memory consider performing an act of kindness, supporting animal welfare, or helping someone in need—causes that reflected the generous spirit by which he lived.
