Raymond Jean Adams

July 5, 1926 — July 4, 2025

Covington, Louisiana

Raymond Jean Adams, born in Bastrop, Louisiana July 5, 1926, died peacefully at the home of his son in Covington, Louisiana, July 4, 2025, just three hours before his 99 th birthday. Raymond celebrated that monumental birthdate with loved ones who predeceased him, his loving wife, Charlotte, his parents, C.C. “Lum” and Artie Adams, three grandchildren, Adam Doiron, Ben Adams, and Christina Adams, one great-grandchild Cash Martin Adams, three sisters and two brothers.

Raymond, destined as a member of that Greatest Generation, joined the Navy in 1942 at 16 years of age in defense of his nation during WW II. He later served in the Korean War. In the interim, he attended LSU where he received a business degree and later a master’s degree in forestry; there he found the love of his life Charlotte with whom he celebrated 71 blessed years enjoying their children, Kathleen (Johnny) Cole, Dennis (Ruth) Adams, Gary (Judy) Adams, Chris (Stephanie) Adams, Amy Adams, and Tracy (Bob) Doiron, 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters.

Raymond worked for Fisher Lumber Corporation in Wisner, Louisiana until his retirement where he and Charlotte raised their brood. He often said he had the best job, the best dog, and the prettiest wife in all of Louisiana. He enjoyed watching his children play sports and stepped up to coach youth baseball, gaining him the appreciation of many young boys. His career gave him the opportunity to enjoy his avocation of hunting and fishing which began at a young age. As a boy his job was mowing the lawn at home, which he said was seldom completed because the nearby woods kept calling him in. He and his boyhood “partner in crime” John L Haygood were so young they had to hold each other’s gun in order to climb through the fences they encountered on their hunts.

For the past five years he called Hempstead, Texas home although he would never forsake his allegiance to his LSU Tigers. He was a devout member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and a committed adorer in their Adoration Chapel. Raymond joined the Hempstead Council #12672 of the Knights of Columbus and was a fixture at their meetings and Friday night dinners. He treasured the many friendships he developed in Hempstead.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bastrop, Louisiana, with interment immediately following at Carter Cemetery located at 7944 Collinston Road, Collinston, Louisiana.

A second Mass will be celebrated in Raymond’s memory on August 16 at 10:00 at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Hempstead, TX with a bereavement meal following at the Hempstead Knights of Columbus hall.
