Raoul David Broussard of Slidell, Louisiana passed away on January 27, 2024 at the age of 98. David was preceded in death by his loving wife of 78 years, Patricia Auenson Broussard. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his children, Jeanne Hutchison (Kort) of Lacombe, Louisiana, Fred Broussard (Deby) of Dunnellon, Florida, Lynne Bagnell (John) of Metairie, Louisiana, Patty Rocquin (Ricky) of Slidell, Louisiana, and Bruce Broussard (Theresa) of Knoxville, Tennessee.
David is also survived by his grandchildren, Lee Noble (Young) of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, Michelle Buisman (Sjoerd) of Lacombe, Louisiana, Kort Hutchison, Jr. (Brandi) of Lacombe, Louisiana, Lindsay Quebedeaux (Joby) of Metairie, Louisiana, Paul Rocquin (Elizabeth) of Sumpter, South Carolina, Stephen Rocquin (Nathalie) of Kentwood, Louisiana, Susan Mohr of Knoxville, Tennessee, Nicholas Broussard (Chelsea) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Christopher Broussard (Jessica) of Knoxville, Tennessee as well as his 15 great-grandchildren and his brother Jerome Broussard of Slidell, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raoul Broussard and Lucille Krift Broussard as well as his siblings, Devota Pye, Gerald Broussard, Keith Broussard, Evelyn Pontiff and Wayne Broussard.
He was a WWII Veteran assigned to USS Shangri-La, Torpedo Squadron 85, in the Western Pacific. He received the Air Medal and Gold Star for combat missions performed from April to September 1945, over Okinawa and Japan. He retired as SeniorChief Petty Officer after 20 years in the U.S. Navy. Upon leaving the Navy he worked in many varied fields of electronics, including the Saturn V Program that put men on the moon, superintendent of shipbuilding 8 th Naval District as quality assurance electronics inspector, NAVELEX Calibration Lab, test procedures writer for Avondale Shipyards, test engineer for Litton Systems and finally as systems test engineer for the external booster tank for the Space Shuttle at Martin-Marietta. After retiring, David and Pat enjoyed traveling extensively, both domestically and abroad, and visiting family and friends scattered around the world. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and The Slidell Evening Lions Club.
Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lacombe with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
Interment to follow in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana.
