Peter Edward Sorant, 78, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023, in Slidell, Louisiana, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.  Peter was born on December 4, 1945, to the late Edward and Alice (Medbery) Sorant who raised him in Bloomfield, Connecticut.  After high school, he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving a bachelor's degree in management.  After working for two years in the M. I. T. Planning Office, he pursued graduate studies in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning master's and doctoral degrees.  He held faculty positions in this field at Ball State University and the University of New Orleans.  Peter always loved music.  Beginning as a teenager, he played piano and organ at various churches. He sang in and directed church choirs and also sang with the New Orleans Symphony Chorus.  
Peter was preceded in death by son Christopher (Kris), brother Philip, and wife Barbara.  
He is survived by sister Mary Jane Parker, son Benjamin, stepdaughter Kristen Cady and her daughter Keighlyn and son Jacob, stepson James Lynch and his son Presley, and first wife Alexa Sorant.  A memorial gathering will be held in Genesis Hall at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell, Louisiana, from 10:00 am to noon on Saturday April 27, 2024.
