Peggy Elaine Horne Taylor, beloved wife of Jimmy C. Taylor, passed from life on May 29, 2017 at Christwood Retirement Community in Covington, Louisiana. She was born on August 23, 1934 in LaGrange, Georgia, to Robert Dalton Horne and Louise Roberts Horne. Her surviving siblings are Carolyn Colley Little of Sun City, Arizona, and Hilda McCarthy Hamner (John of Florence, Alabama).
She graduated from West Point High School in West Point, Georgia, in 1952 and Auburn University with a degree in Education in 1956. Peggy went on to teach Home Economics at Valley High School in Valley, Alabama and Jordan High School in Columbus, Georgia. Peggy and Jimmy married on June 1, 1958 and cherished each other until her death just two days shy of what would have been their 59 th wedding anniversary. Supporting her husband in his career with the United States Secret Service, which included relocating numerous times to numerous states including Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, and Louisiana, Peggy was steadfast in her devotion to being a caring wife and mother. Although the family moved frequently, Peggy remained an active volunteer in school, church, and charitable activities in the many different cities where her busy family lived. When her three daughters went off to college, Peggy pursued her own career as Head of Dietary at East Jefferson Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana. She also loved reading, gardening, and playing in bridge clubs with her friends. As an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering for the New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers and Auburn Tigers, her favorite sporting activity by far was watching and rooting for her many grandchildren as they pursued their sporting endeavors. Peggy and her husband were also active members of St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Mandeville, Louisiana. A special talent for sewing, cooking, and baking, she was instrumental in passing on her skills to her children and several grandchildren.
Peggy is lovingly remembered by her three daughters Kay Valenti (Jay of Wake Forest, North Carolina), Jan Nunmaker (Kevin of Covington, Louisiana), and Wendy Martinez (Rod of Denver, Colorado). She was endearingly called “Peppy” and will be greatly missed by her 16 grandchildren, Katie Braddrick (Philip), Megan Froemming (Joseph), Molly Valenti, Joey Valenti (Melissa), Grace Valenti, Hannah Valenti, Carolina Valenti, Laynie Nunmaker, Taylor Nunmaker, Payton Nunmaker, Jake Nunmaker, Riley Martinez, Trent Martinez, Brice Martinez, John Martinez, and Jenna Martinez. She will also be missed by her five great-grandchildren, John Mark, Asher, Claire, and Graham Braddrick and Eden Froemning. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to cherish her memories.
A celebration of life will take place at Christwood Retirement Community in Covington, Louisiana on July 28, 2017 beginning at 1:00pm. A private committal service will take place at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana.
