Slidell

Neta Edell Hurlston, affectionately known as Nana, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at Slidell Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, mother in law, aunt, and friend whose love and kindness touched all who knew her.

Neta was born in Mangrove Bight, Guanaja, in the Bay Islands of Honduras. She later attended José Trinidad Cabañas High School, where she laid the foundation for a life defined by devotion to family, faith, and service to others.

She was the beloved daughter of Norman and Louise Moore, both of whom preceded her in death. Neta was also preceded in death by her siblings Loida Reeves, Consuelo Moore, Danny Moore, and Denver Moore.

She is lovingly remembered by her siblings Jerry Moore, Kerry Moore, Ronnie Moore, Peggy Moore, Vanessa Hirshlag, Jan Moscato, and Donna Scott, as well as a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.

On December 21, 1963, Neta married the love of her life, John Cunningham Hurlston. The marriage was one of deep devotion and companionship, and John preceded her in death. Neta often said with a smile and great affection, “ There was only one John Hurlston”.

Neta was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family. She is survived by her children William, Pamela, and Jarrett Hurlston, and her daughter-in-law Amanda Hurlston. Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren, Adrianna Hurlston of Slidell and Ariel Cunha of Aruba, whom she loved and treasured deeply.

Neta had a gentle spirit and a nurturing heart. She enjoyed babysitting, gardening -especially mowing her lawn- working crossword puzzles, and listening to music. Her home was a place of warmth, care, and quiet laughter.

A woman of faith, Neta was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where her beliefs guided her life and actions.

She leaves behind not only her immediate family, but also many special friends who mourn her passing and celebrate her life: Silvia, Ena, Dorothy, Joe, Daniel, Brenda, Rene, Lauren, Charlene, Ana, Melba, Marva, Millet, Mary, Omera, Alice, Mavis, and Mansie along with Esperanza, who preceded her in death.

Neta Edell Hurlston will be remembered for her kindness, her steadfast love for family, and the gentle grace with which she lived her life. She will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her.
