Nestor Houghton Sr., P.E., a remarkable senior electrical power and control instrumentation professional engineer, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, in Mandeville, Louisiana. He was born on October 3, 1940, in Havana, Cuba, and lived a life brimming with dedication, love, and accomplishments that left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

With a career spanning an impressive 48 years, Nestor traveled across 35 states, leaving his expertise and passion for electrical engineering in every project he undertook. He attended LSU and became a proud graduate of Portland State University in 1978. He was well regarded among his peers and earned numerous accolades for his exceptional contributions to the field. His professional journey was fueled by a deep commitment to excellence, which he brought into every aspect of his life.

Nestor’s personal life was rich with the warmth of family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Santa Houghton; his beloved children, Angela, Katherine, Samantha, Michele and son-in-law Jason Mancuso, and Nestor Houghton Jr. He cherished time spent with his family, who were his greatest joy. Nestor also took great pride in his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather to Adam, Alex, Brittany, Daisy, Brooks, Gabriel, Anthony, and Joseph, as well as his great-grandchildren, Hunter, Iris, and Jocelyn. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in sharing stories, laughter, and love during family gatherings.

Nestor’s life revolved around the things he held dear: God, family, good food, fishing, bird watching, and gardening. He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Lillie, whose playful spirit brought him much happiness. Each weekend was an opportunity for him to immerse himself in the joys of nature or simply gather with loved ones around the dinner table, surrounded by the love that defined his existence.

Among his proudest accomplishments, Nestor celebrated becoming a U.S. citizen at the age of 19 when he emigrated from Cuba. This brave transition marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, one in which he would leave an enduring legacy not only through his professional achievements but also through the loving family he nurtured and guided. Nestor was admired not only as a skilled engineer but also as an amazing father and husband who inspired those around him with his unwavering support and kindness.

He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. Nestor was preceded in death by his father, Nestor Houghton I; his mother, Esther Munoz Houghton; his son, James Houghton; his son-in-law, Will Gasek Jr.; and his grandchild, Dixie Province.
