Michael Joseph Smith's Obituary

Michael Joseph Smith passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 67, in Madisonville, Louisiana. Born on January 18, 1959, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Eugene Jessie Smith Jr. and Thais Mae Lyon and was the third of five children.

Michael and Lisa Imbraguglio Smith were married from 1982 to 2014 and were blessed with two children. He took great pride in being a father and grandfather. He is survived by his children, Amanda Usner (Nicholas) and Ian Smith; and his three grandchildren, Caleb Usner, Logan Usner, and Ashton Usner. He is also survived by his sisters, Thais “Mitzi” Mancuso, Karen Spellman, and Michele Mazzetti (Matt); and his nieces and nephews, Joseph Mancuso (Lachelle), Charles Mazzetti, Maddalena Mazzetti, Jeremy Smith, and Joshua Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Jessie Smith Jr.; his mother, Thais Mae Lyon; his brother, Robert Smith; and former spouse, Lisa Imbraguglio Smith.

He built a successful career as a construction superintendent, bringing more than 45 years of experience to a wide range of projects, including military, commercial, medical, and industrial work.

Michael cherished time spent with family and friends. He had a passion for cooking and loved preparing meals for those he cared about, often trying new recipes. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, capturing moments through photography, listening to live music, exploring new restaurants, festivals, fishing, and new experiences. He especially loved taking his son to the driving range and to the Spillway to go crabbing and letting his grandchildren hit golf balls in his backyard, creating memories they will always treasure. He was also known for his love of Orange Beach, Alabama and his beloved dog, Coco.

Michael’s memory will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared with family and friends. May his love bring comfort to those who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 11AM at St. Edward the Confessor, 4941 West Metairie Ave, Metairie, LA 70001. Visitation will begin at 10AM.
