Mary Russell Parker, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in her hometown of Covington, Louisiana. She was born on September 28, 1940, in Covington, where her life’s journey began and ultimately came full circle.
Mary was the treasured daughter of the late Frank Russell Sr. and Florance McGary. She carried forward the enduring values and warmth she inherited from her parents, shaping a life defined by grace, resilience, and a boundless love for her family.
Mary’s legacy lives on through her devoted husband, Melvin Jones Sr., who was her partner and support throughout life's many seasons. Together, they built a vibrant and loving family. She is survived by her sons Joseph Jones, Michael Jones, Eric Russell; her daughter's Shellia Jones, Mary Tucker (Hyden), Maria Peters Clark (Algred); and her two sisters, Yvonne Russell Palmer (Joseph) and Viola Russell (Jerry Donel). Each has been deeply touched by Mary’s steadfast guidance and generosity.
Mary is preceded in death by her beloved children, Artrisha Jones, Pamela Jones Ratcliff (Herman), Melvin Jones Jr.,Larwance Jones as well as her siblings; Isabell Russell. Gladys Russell Thomas (Leo), Lola Russell and Florance Russell Ramsey.
Mary’s impact as a matriarch is further reflected in her twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren. Their lives are a testament to the values she embodied—compassion, resilience, and warmth. In each new generation, her influence will continue to echo, guiding and inspiring those who follow in her footsteps.
Mary’s life was a tapestry of joyful gatherings, heartfelt counsel, and unwavering faith. She found her greatest joys surrounded by her loved ones, who will forever hold her memory dear. To all who had the privilege of knowing Mary, her kindness, wise words, and comforting presence will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
Family and friends will gather to honor Mary’s extraordinary life at a graveside service on July 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be held at White Chapel Cemetery, 13541 Hwy 1085, Covington, LA 70433.
As we bid a fond farewell, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, remembering Mary Russell Parker for her unwavering love, deep family devotion, and the legacy she leaves in the hearts of all who knew her.
