Mark Michael Kirkley passed away peacefully at his home on June 12, 2026 at the age of 71. Born on August 19, 1954, in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Mark was the second son of the late Daniel E. Kirkley, Jr. and Ethel Ravannack Kirkley.

Mark’s life was a testament to the love and spirit of family and community. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Edward Kirkley, and his nephew Korey Spindel. Mark’s legacy lives on through his devoted wife of nearly 27 years, Deborah Clust Kirkley, as well as his brother Thomas Kirkley (Karen) and sister Judy Spindel (Keith).

Mark is survived by his beloved daughter, Sara Heart, and his stepchildren, Dominic Clust, Cassandra Rogers (Brad), and Rebekka Amick (Eric). He was a proud Pawpaw to Alyson Guillot, Caleb and Jonah Amick, and Jade and Sophia Fischtziur. He was also a loving uncle to Daniel and David Kirkley and Keith Spindel,Jr.

For 34 years, Mark dedicated himself to the Jefferson Parish Fire Department, where he served with unwavering commitment and courage. Since his retirement in 2014, he has spent his time either scouring the city for unique items to add to his collections, catching up with friends, or training and playing with his dogs whom he fondly referred to as his “girls”.

Mark lived big and out loud, a testament to his unyielding spirit and love for life. He was a true son of New Orleans, cherishing its rich musical heritage and vibrant culture which influenced many of his friendships and pastimes. Mark’s exuberant and social nature meant that he never met a stranger, only friends he had yet to know. Whether he was spinning tales, sharing a meal, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones, Mark’s presence was a gift to all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be announced once arrangements are made.
