Marilyn Herenski Canizaro

January 6, 1932   -   August 12, 2021

Marilyn Canizaro, 89, peacefully & faithfully entered into eternal life with God the Father from her home on August 12th.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Thelma Herenski, her beloved husband of 66 years, Michael Joseph Canizaro, and by their son Michael Phillip Canizaro and grandson Charles Michael Canizaro.

Marilyn is the loving and selfless mother of Charles (Karen), Gary (Joni), Christine (Chuck), Lori ( Paul), Lisa (Barry), Keith (Leticia).  She is Grammy to 20 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and counting. The love Grammy & Pops shared will continue on with the birth of each new blessing.

As a dedicated servant to the Holy Father, Marilyn inspired many to seek, love and please the Lord. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church from its’ beginning until her death.  Marilyn’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary honored the selflessness and sanctity of motherhood. She was a member of the Parish Monday Night Rosary Group for over 50 years.  Catholic Mass, offering special intentions for others and praying the Rosary daily were guiding lights in Marilyn’s life.

She continued to offer a “Toast of Praise” to her treasured Class of 1950 from her Alma Mater, St. Mary’s Dominican High School, until her passing.

Marilyn absolutely loved music. She could always be found dancing in the kitchen, at a parade or on the back porch. She enjoyed beautiful scenery and traveling with Mike, musicals, good books and “Grammy Tea”.  Most of all, she loved being surrounded by family and friends so that she could serve them with her whole heart.  She did this, continuously, whether it be with a libation, laughter, a finger cookie, a “Grammy Check” or to play with grandchildren on the floor.

She was Marilyn to her parents, husband & friends, Shrimpie to her lifelong friends and will always be, Grammy to our entire family.

The promise of Eternal life with our loving and merciful Father prepared His ready and faithful earthly angel to dance her way into His Kingdom. And to that we say Amen.

We invite all who wish to join us to celebrate her life to attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church 6425 W. Metairie Avenue Metairie, Louisiana 70003 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Interment to follow in the Ponchatoula City Cemetery US 51 Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454.
