Louis J. Manito, Sr.

May 2, 1922 — May 16, 2025

Slidell, Louisiana

Louis Joseph Manito Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 103. Born on May 2, 1922, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Louis lived a long, vibrant life rooted in faith, family, and love.

The son of Viola and Louis Manito , Louis grew up alongside his siblings, Violet Fulco and Merrill Manito. He answered the call to serve his country during World War II with honor and bravery. After the war, Louis built a life defined by hard work and devotion. A master carpenter by trade and a phenomenal chef by passion, his hands could build a home and prepare a meal that warmed the heart.

Louis was a man of many talents and simple joys. He loved music, delighted in solving sudoku puzzles with ease, and rarely turned down a Barqs root beer or a good hot dog. His humble spirit and kind heart made him a joy to be around. Even in his final days, he was in perfect health—never needing glasses, hearing aids, and bare minimum assistance, a testament to his remarkable vitality and strength.

A devout Catholic, Louis’s faith guided him throughout his life. He was married to the love of his life, Helen Manito, for over 70 years—a beautiful partnership built on deep love and unwavering support. Together, they raised three children: Louis Joseph Manito Jr., Cynthia Tujague and Peggy Chapoton. Louis was also preceded in death by two of his children, Peggy, and Louis Jr. His legacy lives on through generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry his love and spirit forward.

Louis’s life was a blessing to all who knew him. His presence was a source of love, laughter, and wisdom. He leaves behind a family who adored him and a legacy that will never fade.

Our family would like to give a special thank you to Heritage Manor for taking great care of Louis during the last year of his life. They always treated him with respect, dignity, and care. We appreciate the love and care that was given to him during this time.

A small, private service, will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. the family asks that you honor Louis by enjoying a good meal with loved ones, sharing a laugh, or simply doing a puzzle in his memory.

He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
