Leroy Farrow, affectionately known as “Pappy,” passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at the age of 90. Born September 18, 1935, in Slidell, Louisiana, he was a longtime resident of Bayou Liberty and Slidell, places he proudly called home.
For 65 years, Leroy was devoted to his beloved wife, Judy Galatas Farrow. Together, they built a legacy of love and faith. He is survived by Judy and their four children: Roy Farrow (Tammy), Karen Spencer (Jon), Hope Ward (Chris), and Paul Farrow (Jennifer).
Leroy’s greatest joy was being Pappy to five grandchildren: Ashlee Farrow, Olivia Oberkirch (Dylan), Jackson Oberkirch, Ivy Oberkirch, and Macy Spencer; and one great-grandson, Wyatt Mills.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy R. Farrow and Velma Stephens Farrow, and his sisters Wilma LaRoche, Doris Warren, and Willie Elizabeth Carroll.
A proud veteran, Leroy enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954, serving his country on the USS St. Paul (CA 73) and the USS Perkins (DDR 877) in the 1st and 7th Fleets as a Radarman. In 1958, he extended his service and participated in Operation Hardtack, atomic weapon testing in the Marshall Islands, witnessing eight atomic bomb tests. He formed lifelong friendships, including a treasured bond with his Navy buddy, Wayne Hodges, with whom he attended reunions for many years.
After his military service, Leroy spent 33 years with Shell Oil Company, building a career primarily in the Gulf of Mexico while also traveling extensively for seismic work in Alaska, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia. He took pride in his work and the life it provided for his family.
After retiring in 1993, Leroy attended countless LSU sporting events. Many tall tales and laughs were enjoyed tailgating with friends at LSU baseball and football games. He and Judy also enjoyed traveling around the country in their motorhome. His favorite trips were to Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, and taking the grandkids anywhere - even if it was simply camping in the backyard and sharing a lifetime of stories.
Services celebrating Leroy’s life will be held on January 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 360 Robert Blvd., Slidell, LA 70458. A military service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Rd., Slidell.
