Kenneth Warren Schulz, Sr.

March 10, 1949 — January 15, 2024

Slidell, Louisiana

Kenneth Warren Schulz Sr, resident of Slidell, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 15, 2024 at the age of 74.

Son of Herman William Schulz, Jr. and Audrey Ethel Petrie Schulz, he was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 10, 1949.  He leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Carmen Devitt Schulz, children Fernand Beaucoudray (Linda), Emily Koziol (Brian), and Kenneth Schulz Jr., 9 grandchildren,1 great grandchild and two pups, Sampson and Jaxson. He is also survived by his two sisters, Patricia Schulz Schultz (Bill) and Cathy Schulz Neight (Charles).  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Herman William Schulz III.

Kenny graduated from St. Aloysius in 1967 and spent his career working in Sales in the cabinetry industry.  In the early days, he worked at Clarkmart Cabinets in Chalmette, then transitioned to Singer Cabinets until Kitchens By Kenny & Carmen was founded. He and Carmen spent many years working with clients to design a kitchen of their dreams.  Hurricane Katrina had a major impact on their lives and they moved from Braithwaite Park to Slidell the next year.  He looked back fondly on the years spent in Braithwaite and the friendships made prior to moving to Slidell.  After trying to “semi-retire”, he wanted to be back in his element.  Most recently, he was working part-time at Campbell Cabinets, where he truly found a team that was like family. He was never satisfied sitting still and much preferred to be either playing tennis at Cross Gates, getting exercise by walking around the neighborhood or watching a sporting event.  He often visited family in the Orlando area and had a list of favorite restaurants and places to see, which have become treasured memories.

He was a lifelong fan of the New Orleans Saints.  Despite experiencing the ups and downs of football Sundays for decades, Kenny was a proud member of Who Dat Nation and bled Black & Gold.  He also loved the LSU Tigers and would often be seen wearing his bright yellow Hawaiian LSU shirt with a coordinating LSU ball cap.  Game day was also time for him to enjoy his signature drink, a Gin & Tonic with lime.

His passing was unexpected and we will miss him dearly, as he was always the epitome of energy and filled with vibrant life. He will be cremated and there will be a Mass to celebrate his life in the upcoming weeks.   In place of flowers, you may wish to donate to STARC of Louisiana in Kenneth’s name.
