Kemp Thompson Jr

Kemp Thompson, Jr., a lifelong resident of Folsom, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the age of 92.

Known to many simply as “Junior,” he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Betty Achord Thompson, his two infant children Johnnie Thompson, Diane Thompson, and his grandsons, Derek Paul Thompson and Ryan Neil Thompson, Jr.

He leaves behind a family who loved him beyond measure, as well as his devoted partner, Janet Manton, whose love and companionship brought much happiness to his later years.

Junior dedicated many years of his life to serving the people and community he loved. He served as a constable for many years, a role he took great pride in, and he truly enjoyed having the opportunity to serve and help the people of his community. He also retired after many years of service with parish government.

In retirement, Junior focused on what mattered most to him—his family and enjoying the simple things in life. He loved gardening and being outdoors, and some of his happiest times were spent fishing and hunting with his son and grandsons.

Above all else, Junior was a family man. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were the center of his world, and there was very little he enjoyed more than having his family gathered around him. He took tremendous pride in each of them and loved watching his family grow through the generations.

Junior never met a stranger. He had a way of making people feel welcome and at home, whether he had known them for a lifetime or had only just met them. He believed in helping others whenever he could and was the kind of man friends, neighbors, and family knew they could count on. Whether someone needed a helping hand, a little advice, a good story, or simply someone to sit and visit with, Junior was there. His generosity was not something he talked about—it was simply the way he lived his life.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his kindness toward others, his years of service to his community, his love of the outdoors, and the many stories, lessons, and memories he leaves behind. At 92 years old, Junior lived a long and full life, but to those who loved him, no amount of time could ever have been enough.

Junior is survived by his children, Elizabeth “Liz” Taylor and her husband, Tiger; Sharon Blackwell and her husband, James; Billy Thompson and his wife, Wanda; and Amy Bennett and her husband, Daniel.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie Norman (Justin), Tasso Taylor (Amy), Becky Talley (James), Jessica Farris (Brandon), Ryan Thompson, Dana Gisclair (Jake), Jamie Moss (Jordan), and Christian Bernard (Dylan), as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored. Being surrounded by the generations of family he helped create brought him tremendous joy, and each of them held an especially precious place in his heart.

Junior leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured simply in years, but in the lives he touched, the family he loved, the community he served, the friendships he made, and the memories that will continue to be shared for generations.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Services will be held at Lee Hill Baptist Church in Folsom Louisiana. Wednesday September 2, 2026 visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., funeral service will begin at 12 p.m., following burial at Briar Patch Cemetery In Loranger LA.
