June Bigner Calkins passed away on November 7, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on December 20, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she made her home in Pearl River, Louisiana, where she was known for the love she gave to her family and the grace with which she lived her life.
June found deep joy in the life she shared with her husband, Richard W. Calkins, who preceded her in death. She loved traveling with him, treasured music, and took special pride in being a deacon’s wife. These simple and enduring joys shaped a life rooted in devotion, companionship, and faith.
She was also preceded in death by her father, Otto Bigner; her mother, Evie Coates Bigner; her brother, Emmit Bigner, and her sisters, Madge Billingsly, Lee Bigner and Linda Bigner. She now rejoins her beloved husband and those family members who went before her.
June’s memory will be cherished by her children, Michael L. Ballard and his wife, Tanya, ASA Mark Calkins and Donald, and Donna Breland and her husband, Kyle. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, as well as two nieces, Tressa Tantillo and Gay Garhart. She held close the Calkins family, with whom she shared 50 years of life, love, and family bonds, and her presence will remain a lasting part of their story.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Lee Rd, Covington, Louisiana. A funeral service will begin there at 12:00 p.m., followed by burial at 1:15 p.m. at St. Joseph the Abbey Cemetery, 75376 River Road, Saint Benedict, Louisiana.
June Bigner Calkins will be remembered with affection for her warmth, her faith, and the love she poured into her family across the years. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will continue to be carried forward by all who knew and loved her.
