Julia Jeansonne Gahn, a longtime resident of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on June 1, 2026, in Lafayette, Louisiana at the age of 86. Born on December 17, 1939, in Plaucheville, Louisiana, Julia lived a life marked by dedication and service to her community.
Julia worked as a receptionist and optician for Dr. John Ferry in Covington, where she was known for her kindness and professionalism. Beyond her career, she generously volunteered her time at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital and for the Lunch Ministry at St. Benedict Church, reflecting her compassionate spirit and commitment to helping others.
Her family was a central part of her life. She is survived by her children: Alfred Gahn (Karen), Cynthia Mitcham (Richard), Laura Gahn (Patti Lopitz), and David Gahn (Julie). She also leaves behind her brothers, Eric Jeansonne (Sue) and Mark Jeansonne (Linda), as well as her sister-in-law, Judy Jeansonne. Julia was a proud grandmother to Jeff Gahn (Danielle), Nicholas Gahn, Tyler Mitcham, Erick Mitcham (Amanda), Eva Gahn, and Jody Gahn, and a loving great-grandmother to Rylee, Emmett, Hudson, Stephen, Jordon, and August.
Julia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Gahn; her parents, Harold Jeansonne and Loudean Mayeux Jeansonne; and her brother, Roland Jeansonne.
Visitation will be held on June 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, located at 20370 Smith Rd, Covington, LA 70435. Following the visitation, a Mass will be celebrated at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.Her burial will take place on June 15, 2026, at St. John Cathedral, 914 St. John Street, Lafayette, LA 70501, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Julia Jeansonne Gahn will be remembered for her warmth, her commitment to family and community, and her gentle presence that touched the lives of many in Covington and beyond.
