John Edward Loyd Sr. passed away peacefully at home in Covington, surrounded by family, on the eleventh of May 2026. He will be missed by all who knew him.
John was born on the eighth of February, 1953, to George and Dorothy Loyd in Bogalusa Louisiana. Playing with his nine siblings in the countryside instilled in him a love of the wilds of Louisiana, growing into a passion for hunting, fishing, and raising his own food. It was also there that the foundations were laid for his devotion to Christ.
Affectionately known as Big Johnny to his friends, John eventually settled in Covington Louisiana with the love of his life Carol Dutsch Loyd with whom he raised three children: John E. Loyd (Tina) Robert H. Loyd, and Carol Alexzandra Loyd. Along the way he Joined Local Pipefitters Union 798 and pursued a 40 year career as a pipeline welder and inspector. John's spiritual journey led him to be reborn in Christ as a member of New Zion Baptist Church.
John is preceded in death by his parents: George M. Loyd and Dorothy Tisdale Loyd; one of his children, John E. Loyd; and brothers: George M. Loyd (Jackie), Arnold Loyd (Fransouis), and Ronald Loyd (Jayne).
John is survived by Mrs. Carol Dutsch Loyd; his siblings: Clarise Chehardy (Moe), David Loyd (Cindy), Mike Loyd (Debi), Gary Loyd (Madelyn), Bruce Loyd (Tricia) and Laurie Loyd Lee; his children, Robert H. Loyd and Carol Alexzandra Loyd; his grandchildren: Emery Fagot (Randy), Paige Foret (Chaz), Greyhson Loyd (Shira), John Brayden Loyd, Allie Loyd, Camdyn Loyd (Mason), Brayden Loyd (Bree), and Marley Loyd. Great-grandchildren: Noah, Mac, Amelia, Declan, and John; as well as 30 nieces and nephew, their families, and many friends.
A service celebrating the life of Big Johnny will be held at the New Zion Baptist Church on the fifth of June 2026. Visitation begins at ten AM with service at noon and a repast to follow.
