Harris

John Robert Harris was born on August 31, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away on April 22, 2026, in Mandeville, Louisiana after 31 years of illness. He lived a life full of simple joys and deep connections with those around him.

He was a former St. Bernard Deputy, then briefly worked at NASA, and his profession was an Amana Rep for George Lehleitner.

John had a special love for feeding squirrels, which brought him a quiet happiness in the everyday moments. He also cherished decorating for Christmas, filling his home with festive spirit each year. One of his favorite places was in the garage he fondly called the Gorilla Room, where he spent much of his time enjoying his hobbies and relaxing with friends. He liked to be a comedian and telling jokes and was so, so funny.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Toni Palermo Harris, who stood by his side through many seasons of life. John also leaves behind his stepdaughters, Dawn Farrell (Jeffrey Sr.) and Michelle Amriel, who remember him fondly. His extended family includes Marie Hubert (Earl), his sister-in-law, and David Palermo (Vickie), his brother-in-law as well as brother-in-law Clarence Simpson, John’s step-grandchildren Jeffrey Farrell III, Juston Farrell, Chase Dillard, and Jeffrey Farrell Jr. (Jordan), great-granddaughter LilyClare Farrell, along with numerous nieces and nephews, carry forward his memory in their hearts.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Della Baughman Harris, who undoubtedly shaped the man he became, his father -in-law Anthony Palermo Sr. and mother-in-law Marie Palermo, brother-in-law Anthony Palermo Jr. (Diane) and sister-in-law Ann Simpson. His family and friends will remember him as a gentle presence who found joy in the small things and loved his family deeply.

Though he has left this world, the warmth John Robert Harris brought to those around him will remain with all who knew him for many years to come.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of the St. Tammany Hospice and the healers at Post-Acute Medical in Covington.
