Jeron Rubin Fitzmorris

Jeron Rubin Fitzmorris, 91, of Covington, Louisiana, died on July 26, 2026, from complications of a heart attack. He was deeply devoted to his family and lived a life marked by hard work, service, and love.

He was born on March 22, 1935, in Covington, Louisiana, the son of the late Lawrence Casen Fitzmorris and Larcie Lucille Bush Fitzmorris. Jeron graduated from Covington High School in 1953. He met his wife, Nancy Louise Dawson of Whittier, California, in New Orleans at Mardi Gras in 1959, and they were married later that year. Together, they made their home and built their life in Covington.

Jeron became a licensed land surveyor in 1970, founded Land Surveying, Inc. in 1972, and operated the business until his retirement in 2010. During his long career, he designed and surveyed numerous properties that became well-known subdivisions throughout St. Tammany Parish, including Abita Lakes, Money Hill, Whippoorwill Grove on Money Hill, Annendell, Brier Lake Estates, River Oaks, Oak Mill, Brady Island, Chamale, Port Louis, River Heights, and Spring River Park. He also worked closely with several municipalities, including Covington, Mandeville, Madisonville, Folsom, and Abita Springs, and was instrumental in mapping the first City of Covington annexation map and providing the city with its first city limit boundary description. He also performed water maintenance work for Water District No. 3, which serves Riverwood and Covington Country Club, for more than 20 years. In addition, he served for many years with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, refereeing high school football games across the state. He never met a stranger, and his clients always enjoyed stopping by the office to pick up their surveys, visit with him, and share a laugh as he told old stories with a smile.

In 1968, he served on the steering committee that led to the founding of the Lee Road Water Company in 1974, which today provides service to about 2,200 customers. He was also a member of the Louisiana Rural Water Association for more than 25 years. He helped organize Fire District No. 12 in St. Tammany Parish and served for a time as a volunteer firefighter.

He was also deeply involved with deaf children in the community, welcoming them to picnics at his home and helping build a dedicated classroom for them at Covington High School. He gave his time and service to many other community efforts, far too many to list.

In 1994, the year his youngest graduated from Covington High School, he was instrumental in establishing the first post-graduation celebration to continue through the night, which remains a tradition today.

He was actively involved in 4-H beginning in 1974, first with his son and then with each of his children. Through 4-H, they showed cattle, sheep, pigs, and chickens, and it gave his children an incredible opportunity for personal growth. It was truly a labor of love, with the children receiving the recognition and rewards of their hard work.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Nancy, are his son, Alan Jay Fitzmorris of Grand Bay, Alabama; daughters, Cheri Luck Sinclair and her husband, Jeff Sinclair, of Mendenhall, Mississippi; Christy Lou Cynthia Fitzmorris of Covington, Louisiana; Ashley Elizabeth Meier and her husband, J.P. Meier, of Covington, Louisiana; and Emeline Rose Thomsen of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy throughout his life.

He deeply loved his family and took great pride in being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lollie Lucille Harriss and Olive Lillian McGillivary; brothers, Adrian Enos Fitzmorris, Lawrence Ceedie Fitzmorris, James Willard Fitzmorris and Glen Ray Fitzmorris; his infant son, Timothy Tay Fitzmorris, twin brother of his firstborn son; his grandson, John Tyler Meier; and daughter-in-law, Wendy Wilhelm Fitzmorris.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bagnell and Son Funeral Home, with a funeral service and graveside service to follow.
