Jean McCarroll Lurry

Jean McCarroll Lurry was born on October 12, 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026 at her home where she resided with family in Slidell, Louisiana.

Jean, lovingly known as “Granma”, had many hobbies over the years, most notably her antique business where she made many friends. What she loved doing most of all was spending time with her family (young and old), her friends and her cat “Smitty”. She brought much love, joy and laughter into our lives and will be greatly missed but forever remembered. We are comforted knowing that she is home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through Him, we will be reunited one glorious day.

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:2-3

Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter David Lurry III; her father, Eugene Mixon McCarroll; her mother, Gladys Lolita Gelpi; and her sister, Gladys McCarroll McIntosh.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Ann Lurry and Marjorie Lurry Scholtens; her son-in-law, John Lee Scholtens, Jr.; her grandchildren: Edgar Burton Kemp V, Stephanie Kemp DeForrest (George), John Lurry Scholtens (Michele), Richard Taylor Scholtens, Zelleigh Scholtens Mason (Nathan), and Ashley Jean Scholtens; and her great grandchildren: George Farold Deforrest, Avery Jean Scholtens, Brinley Marie Scholtens, Emma Riley Mason, Eli Holt Mason, Nolan John Mason, and Caroline Louise Mason. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia McCarroll Wynn.
