Jacqueline (Jackie) Carol Nix was born August 7, 1944 to Florieda Robar (Grimes) and Clayton T. Nix. Jackie passed peacefully in the presence of family on September 18, 2021 after a long battle against kidney disease. She was 77.
Jackie was the oldest of three and grew up in Metairie, Louisiana and lived most of her life on the West Bank of New Orleans. She graduated from East Jefferson High school in 1961 and kept lifelong friendships from her years there. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph Uzee, and former husband Howard F. Asher.
Jackie (aka Grammy) adored her family, friends, and spicy food. She was a terrific cook and never missed an opportunity to feed anyone who came through the door. Blessed with the gift of gab, infectious laughter, and a colorful repertoire of bad words, she was a joy to be around. She will be remembered as a loving mother and one tough cookie.
Jackie is survived by her daughter Georgette Fortino and partner Eric Bourg; daughter Dionne Magner and son-in-law Don; brother Don Nix and wife Mary Ann; sister Adriane Kennedy and husband Charles; granddaughter Madeline Chizmar and husband Zach; granddaughter Jessica Harjo and husband Derrick; granddaughter Caroline Fortino; grandsons Davis Magner and Aidan Magner.
A memorial service will be held at Bagnell and Son Funeral Home November 26, 2021 at 12 noon. Visitation will begin at 10 am. Visitors are asked to wear a mask.
