Harry Miguel Nunez, Jr., aged 82, passed away on December 24, 2025, at his home in Covington, LA with his wife and three children by his side. Born on September 4, 1943, Harry was a revered figure in the realms of education and athletics, dedicating 54 years to coaching and mentoring young minds.
Harry was a standout athlete at his alma mater, Holy Cross High School, but even more importantly, he became a living example of the faith, honesty, and integrity that define the Holy Cross Man. He carried that same passion and commitment to Southeastern Louisiana College, where he excelled in football. He was honored with inductions into the Hall of Fame at both institutions. While his achievements on the field were remarkable, Harry was most cherished for the way he shaped young lives—encouraging character, self-discipline, and dedication in the countless young men who looked up to him. Those same qualities guided his life beyond the game, whether he was spending time with family, practicing calligraphy, or seeking out football fields whenever his travels took him to new cities. He was also a donor to the Tulane Sport Brain Bank, a final act speaking volumes to his character.
Surviving Harry are his beloved wife of 59 years, Sharon; his children, Kellie Nunez, Harry (Mick) Nunez (Tammy), and Patricia Lobdell (JW); his five grandchildren and one great grandchild, Jack Nunez, Kiernan Nunez, Ella Nunez, Walker Lobdell (Jane) and their son Miles, Alex Lobdell; and his sister, Alma Leonardi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry M. Nunez, Sr. and Yvonne Koski Nunez; his brother, John Nunez; and sisters, Joy Nunez and Yvonne Lemoine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in his honor on Monday, January 5, 2026, at St. Peter Church in Covington, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, followed by the funeral mass at 11 am. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Metairie Cemetery.
In remembrance of Harry’s legacy, donations can be made to Holy Cross School, St. Paul’s School, or the Tulane University Center for Sport Brain Bank at (504) 923-4826, in lieu of flowers.
