Gustav Bernard
Monteleone Jr.
Mar 28, 1945 — Oct 14, 2026
Meraux
Gustav “Gus” B. Monteleone Jr., a native of New Orleans and longtime resident of Chalmette, Louisiana, passed away on October 14, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born on March 28, 1945, Gus was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a hardworking man whose greatest joy in life was the family he loved so dearly.
Gus is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Carollo Monteleone; his children, Lisa Monteleone Burk (Peter), Theresa Monteleone Kreger (Jr.), Gustav Monteleone III (Kiesha), and Anna Carollo Persica (Wade).
He was the cherished grandfather of Anthony Monteleone (Ashley), Brittany Mendoza (Wayne), Justin Topey (Rebekah), Ashley Nation (Clinton), Kayleigh Raiford (Matt), Taylor Wood (Paul), Samantha Nuccio (Ryan), Jaycee Bell (Hunter), Noah Wood (Candice), Adam Persica, Joshua Burk, Lainey Monteleone, and Gustav Monteleone IV. He also leaves behind 30 beloved great-grandchildren, each a special part of the beautiful legacy he created.
Gus is also survived by his brother, James Monteleone, Sr. (Phylis), and his sister, June Frechou (Glenn).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav B. Monteleone and Frances Lepoma Monteleone; his sisters, Gayle Monteleone Prattini and Patricia Monteleone; his son-in-law, Peter Burk; and his brother-in-law, Francis Prattini.
Gus dedicated many years of his life to working at the Sheraton Hotel, where his strong work ethic and dedication reflected the values he carried throughout his life. A proud member of Local 60 Union for over 50 years, Gus valued the importance of hard work, loyalty, and dedication. His longtime union membership was a testament to his commitment to his trade and the hardworking men and women alongside whom he spent so many years. He was a man who believed in working hard, taking care of his family, and doing things the right way — which, in true Gus fashion, usually meant doing them his way.
Gus had a special way of showing how much he cared. He was happiest keeping his hands busy, tinkering with anything he could get his hands on, and fixing whatever needed fixing.
He loved having his family gathered around him and took great joy in the togetherness that came with a house full of loved ones. Yet, as much as he treasured those moments, Gus also appreciated the simple comfort of peace and quiet. He found happiness in both the lively presence of his family and the calm of a quiet day spent doing the things he enjoyed.
Above all, Gus was a family man. His love was found not only in words, but in the countless little things he did for those around him. His hardworking spirit, strong will, and devotion to his family will remain part of his legacy for generations to come.
Though his family will deeply miss his familiar presence, they will forever carry the memories of a man who loved deeply, worked tirelessly, and left behind a family that was his greatest accomplishment.
The family wishes to extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Southern Grace Hospice for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided Gus during his final days. Their gentle hands, comforting words, and unwavering support brought peace and comfort not only to Gus, but to the family who loved him so dearly. Their compassion will never be forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate the life of Gustav “Gus” Monteleone Jr. Visitation and service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and remembered in every story shared, every family gathering, and in every moment we know he’d be at.
