Glenda had a deep love for life and brought that same enthusiasm to the things she enjoyed most.
Glenda Spano, born on September 23, 1942, in New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on November 2, 2026, in Covington, Louisiana. She will be remembered as a spirited and loving woman whose energy, determination, and warmth touched those around her.
Glenda had a deep love for life and brought that same enthusiasm to the things she enjoyed most. She was very sports-minded and a true competitor, someone who embraced both challenge and joy with equal passion. In her younger years, she ran track in high school and played softball, and her love of athletics remained with her throughout her life. She was also an avid tennis player and, in a remarkable reflection of her drive and determination, played for Southeastern College at 45 years old. That accomplishment spoke to her confidence, resilience, and willingness to pursue what she loved at any stage of life.
Beyond sports, Glenda was a master gardener who found great happiness working the land. She spent many days gardening on her more than six acres in Madisonville, creating beauty through her care and dedication. She also loved pets, and that affection was part of the gentle, nurturing spirit that so many knew in her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Spano. She also leaves behind her sisters, Shirley Hinyup and her husband Charlie, Patty Stulman and her husband John, and Anita Miles and her husband Greg. Glenda’s memory will also be cherished by her grandson, Scott Volz; her granddaughter, Crystle Brook and her husband Michael; and her great-grandchild, Annastyn Brook. She also leaves behind her loving nieces Lizbeth Raque and her husband Jay, Suzanne Hinyup and Lisa Yarborough. She lived surrounded by family ties that remained an important part of her life, and those who knew and loved her will carry her memory forward with affection.
Glenda was preceded in death by her father, Dennis; her mother, Mary; her son, Cary Volz; her daughter, Kim Volz; and her grandchildren, Grace Ann Sbisa and Joseph Sbisa. Their memories remained part of her life and love, and they are held close in remembrance alongside her.
Glenda will be remembered for her competitive spirit, her love of the outdoors, the beauty she cultivated in her garden, and the devotion she held for her family. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
