Obituary

Frederic Joe McQuiston, age 90, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026.

Born on October 22, 1935, in Monroe, Louisiana, Fred lived a life defined by faith, service, family, and kindness. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps before earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He went on to enjoy a successful career as a Mechanical Engineer, where his intelligence, professionalism, and steady character earned him the respect of colleagues throughout his career.

Fred was a devoted member of St. Timothy on the Northshore Methodist Church in Mandeville for many years. He was also a proud 32nd Degree Mason, embracing the principles of brotherhood, charity, and service that guided his life.

While these accomplishments were important to him, they were never what defined him. Fred will be remembered most for the man he was. He possessed a warm heart, an easy smile, and a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome. He was genuinely kind, endlessly patient, and found joy in making others laugh.

Like his brothers, Fred loved telling a good story. Whenever they gathered, the stories became more colorful with each retelling, the embellishments growing to legendary proportions. Those moments of laughter became part of the family's history and remain treasured memories for all who shared them.

Fred never met a stranger. He made friends easily and cherished them throughout his life. His playful sense of humor and good-natured personality brightened every room he entered. Even during his time at the rehabilitation facility, he delighted in joking with the young ladies  on the staff, whom he sincerely appreciated for the care and kindness they showed him. Their affection for him was returned many times over.

Family was the greatest joy of Fred's life. Vacations were never just vacations—they were adventures that inevitably became family stories retold for years to come. Whether through a shared laugh, an unexpected detour, or a simple evening together, he believed the best moments in life were those spent with the people he loved. He devoted himself to creating those moments, building a lifetime of memories that his family will cherish forever.

Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole Lois McQuiston; his parents, Louis K. McQuiston and Nellie G. McQuiston; his brothers, Gradon McQuiston and Richard McQuiston; his sister-in-law, Jean McQuiston; and his son-in-law, Paul Loomis.

He is survived by his son, Eric R. McQuiston and wife, Betsy; his daughter, Karie Loomis; his brother, Eric Van McQuiston and wife, Judy; his sister-in-law, Katherine McQuiston; his grandchildren, Conner J. McQuiston, Thomas McQuiston, Christopher Loomis, and Patrick Loomis; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless dear friends whose lives he touched over the years.

A Memorial Service celebrating Fred's life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. Timothy on the Northshore Methodist Church in Mandeville, Louisiana.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, physicians, nurses, therapists, and especially the caring staff of his rehabilitation facility for the compassion, friendship, and dignity they showed Fred throughout his final journey.

Fred leaves behind a legacy measured not in titles or accomplishments, but in friendships, laughter, kindness, and love. He was respected by everyone who knew him and remembered as a warm, gentle, and genuinely wonderful man. His family takes comfort knowing that the stories he loved to tell, the laughter he inspired, and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
