Freddie Paul Homer, of Covington, Louisiana, was born on August 5, 1965, in Charleston, South Carolina, on a Navy installation, and passed away after a long battle with various cancers on May 22, 2026 at the age of 60. Freddie lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, then San Diego, California, but grew up in Metairie and later made his home in Bush, Louisiana.
Freddie worked most of his adult life in construction and roofing. He could estimate the cost of replacing your roof within pennies, without the use of calculator.
Freddie had a deep passion for woodworking and playing the guitar, he was a much better carpenter than guitar player, but he enjoyed it. Whether he was building something with his hands or strumming a tune, Freddie found joy in creating and sharing moments with others. Freddie will long be remembered for his big heart and his compassion for animals. His absence will be suffered by his beloved cats, Ice Man and Cupcake. His tenderness for those in need was evident even when he was a young child. He would come home from school without his coat on the coldest of days. When questioned by his Mother, he would reply, “There was a boy at school who didn’t have a coat, and he was cold, so I gave him mine.”
He is survived by his loving mother, Nola Raines Homer-Smith; Father Fred Homer, his sister Paula (Lee); and his brother Donal (Lori). He was a proud uncle to Brian (Julia) and Daniel (Casandra), and a great-uncle to Rowan and Rory. He adored his cousins who were more like much younger siblings, Bobbie and Dustin.
His loss will be felt by many dear cousins and friends.
Internment will be held at Reed Raines Memorial Gardens, 27115 Highway 40, Folsom, LA, 70437. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Freddie’s life.
