Evelyn Roth Robinson Scarborough, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and Gramma, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana. She was born the youngest of three on December 30, 1930, in Winfield, West Virginia to Charles Wayland Robinson, Sr. and Ruth Annetta Wick Robinson. She led a life filled with service, love, and joy. Throughout her high school years, Evelyn (lovingly nicknamed “Tootsie”) was recognized for her talents and charm, voted "Miss Winfield," and showcased her skills as a baton twirler in the high school band where she also played the flute. Evelyn served her country as an Officer in the United States Air Force displaying great dedication and commitment as she traveled throughout Europe, finally stationed in England. After her service she was in the first class of women allowed at the University of Virginia where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation she moved to San Francisco, California where she worked as a nurse and subsequently met her husband Lee Mathias Scarborough who had three son’s already: Thomas (daughter TerryLynn), Terrell Gaylor (deceased) and James Greer (son Maxwell Lee).
She retired in 1965 when her first child, Leigh Annetta, came along. Shortly after her second child, John Wick, born in 1967, they moved to Metairie, Louisiana where she quickly became intrigued with the Cajun food flavors. In no time at all she was “wowing” family and crowds alike with her expertise in preparing all the traditional dishes as if born a true Cajun herself!
She was known for her sharp wit, warm and generous heart, and an infectious smile that never left her face. She never met a stranger, always eager to lend a hand or share a kind word. As a faithful and devoted Christian, she made a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
In her church, Parkway Presbyterian, Evelyn was active in both the voice and bell choirs. She hosted new pastors for welcome dinners and loved throwing dinner parties for friends! She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking delicious meals for her family, sewing, playing piano and exercising with water aerobics.
Evelyn moved from Metairie, LA to Mandeville, LA in 2005 to be near her daughter and her family. She lovingly and invaluably toted her grands to/from schools and practices, attended performances and games alike and always with the enthusiasm of the absolute proudest Gramma ever!!! She loved helping her daughter out in any way she could!
She quickly joined St. Timothy on the Northshore Methodist Church where she joined their voice and bell choirs making new and dear friendships. She also attended ALERT luncheons and meetings and was in a fashion show they put on. She absolutely loved her Sunday School class and all of its members, never failing to leave them in stitches with her fun humor and always looking forward to the many gatherings they had outside of church. Never slowing down, she even traveled to the Holy Land with the choir one Christmas.
She had a love for the outdoors, always listening to birds and looking at trees, and especially loving on all dogs she encountered. She had an amazing green thumb - both in her yard and in her home, and she relished time spent at the beach and on cruises, always creating beautiful memories with loved ones.
Evelyn's family meant everything to her. She was a loving wife to Lee, who preceded her in death, and she cherished her role as a mother to her children, Leigh Annetta Scarborough Leveille and John Wick Scarborough. As a grandmother, she absolutely adored her grandchildren: Richard Roland "Trey" Leveille III, Elise Annetta Leveille Kenning (Richie), Meredith Leigh Leveille, and Brett Mathias Leveille (Lili). Evelyn’s siblings also preceded her in death, Charles Wayland (Bob) Robinson, Jr. (Margaret) and Mary Annetta Robinson Pezzello, as did numerous other family members that always remained thought of and spoken about with such reverence to newer generations. Heritage was a beautiful responsibility that Evelyn thoughtfully taught her kids and her daughter now passes down to her children.
Evelyn Roth Robinson Scarborough leaves behind an incredible and unmatchable legacy of love and strength, undeniable strong Christian faith, steadfast in her walk with God and always eager to lend a hand, always fiercely loyal and the best kind of friend. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends forevermore.
All are invited to attend a memorial service joyously celebrating her incredible life.
