Eugene Charles Shannon

August 26, 1957 — July 31, 2023

Pawlyes, South Carolina

Eugene “Gene” Charles Shannon was a loving brother, uncle, and friend. Gene passed away suddenly on July 31, 2023, while on vacation in Covington, Louisiana. He was born on August 26, 1957, in Troy, New York. After graduating from Troy High School, Gene received a business degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. He had extremely fond memories of growing up in New York and playing hockey at Cooper’s Pond with his brothers and friends. However, he spent most of his life in south Louisiana where he had more friends than he could count and a career he loved with FedEx for 34 years. After retiring, Gene moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina to be close to his sister and brother-in-law. Gene was quite a jokester and truly loved good pranks. He kept everyone rolling in laughter because he could find humor in the most mundane life circumstances. You couldn’t help but love him for his charismatic personality, welcoming smile, and even bigger heart. He loved golfing and spending time with his beloved nieces and nephews. He was a very proud Uncle Geno. Gene is preceded in death by his mother (Joan Jacobs), father (Jack Shannon), two sisters (Kathleen “Kandy” Shannon and Dacia Shannon Burke) and his nephew, Joshua L. Smith. Those left to cherish his loving memory are three brothers: John F. Shannon, III of Watervliet, NY, George VA Shannon of Clifton Park, NY, Kevin Shannon (Carolyn) of El Dorado Hills, CA and four sisters: Mary “Polly” Smith (Lou) Pawleys Island, SC, Frances Shannon Akstull (Wally) Clifton Park, NY, Cindy Shannon Haegele of Pinehurst, NC and Kelly Ann Shannon of Alexandria, LA. Gene also leaves behind a multitude of nieces and nephews and his loyal canine companion Dublin.  Arrangements for a celebration of Gene’s life will be provided at a later date.
