Ernie Lee Watson, born December 21, 1954, passed away peacefully at his home in Mandeville, LA on Saturday October 7, 2023.
 
After graduating from high school, Ernie joined the United States Marine Corps and served God and his country for 20 years.  After retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant from his military service he recieved a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and began an 11-year career teaching JROTC at George Washington Carver High School in New Orleans, LA.
 
 Ernie leaves his wife, Darlene Lavertu Watson, of Mandeville, LA; two daughters, Amber C. Harter (James) of Metairie, LA and Andrea E. Watson of New Orleans, LA; three grandchildren, Tristan Lee Fulghum, Faith Christine Cronin, and Daniel James Harter of Metairie, LA; a sister, Shanna Jones of Sterns, KY; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other children and grandchildren whom the Lord blessed Ernie to love and care for over many years as part of his family.  
 
Ernie was a faithful and loving husband to Darlene Lavertu Watson for 48 years. They married on November 4, 1978 in Enfield, CT.
 
Ernie was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Calla Fay Massengale Watson; his father, Bud Watson; his brother, Eugene Watson; and his sister, Sheila Kay Shane.
 
Ernie was a husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.  His life was dedicated to Jesus Christ his Savior and Lord.  He loved and honored his family second only to God.  Ernie set an example for his daughters, grandchildren, and all who knew him as an honorable, repectful, dedicated man of God.  He left a legacy for each of them of love, faith, persistance, resiliance, and, most of all, gratitude.  His memory will live on in all who were blessed to know and love him. 
 
A Memorial and Military Honor Service, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception, will be held November 4, 2023 at 11:00 am.
