Ellen “Maw Maw” Lennox Grashoff passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 17, 2026, at the age of 100. Born on August 27, 1925, to Julius Jacob Lennox Sr. and Ellen Cline Lennox, Ellen was born and raised in New Orleans and lived a remarkable life centered on faith, family, friendship, and love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George W. “Cricket” Grashoff Sr., her son, George W. Grashoff Jr., her son-in-law, Lawrence F. Chisholm, and her brother, Julius Jacob Lennox, Jr.
Ellen is survived by her children, Gayle Perry, Terry Chisholm, and Gary Grashoff (Elizabeth). She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride throughout her life.
Ellen was married to the love of her life, Cricket, for 50 years. Their story began as young neighborhood sweethearts, and their love endured through the challenges and uncertainty of World War II while Cricket served in Germany. They created a lifetime of cherished memories, filling their lives with laughter and joy and many long-lasting friendships. The love they shared left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know them.
Known affectionately as “Maw Maw” to generations of family and friends, Ellen cherished time spent with loved ones on her backyard patio, where she enjoyed reading, conversation, and caring for her many beautiful plants. She was especially fond of her monthly “wine parties” with neighbors, gatherings that reflected her warmth, hospitality, and gift for friendship.
Ellen was a devoted Catholic which was a cornerstone of her life. She shared this with her family through her example, love, and steadfast devotion. Her faith guided her throughout her century of life and was among the greatest gifts she passed on to those she loved.
She shared a special bond with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made it a priority to stay closely connected through regular phone calls and by attending their activities, celebrations, and milestones. Her love, encouragement, and steady presence created memories that will be treasured for generations.
A visitation will be held at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church on June 3, 2026, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of Ellen’s life will take place at St. Luke immediately following Mass. Burial will follow at Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ellen’s memory by enjoying a glass of wine with a piece of chocolate — something she would surely appreciate — and by making a donation to The Little Sisters of the Lamb (https://communityofthelamb.org/help-the-little-sisters/) or St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church (https://saintlukeslidell.org/give).
