Effie Schulz
Shipman
Aug 3, 1935 — Jun 13, 2026
In Loving Memory of Effie Schulz Shipman.
Effie Schulz Shipman, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and the grace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born on August 3, 1935, in Slidell, Louisiana, Effie was the beloved daughter of Oswald Schulz and Mary Keyser Schulz, both of whom preceded her in death. Throughout her life, she called many places home, including Chicago, Illinois; Mobile, Alabama; and Fort Walton Beach, Florida, before settling in Folsom, Louisiana, where she enjoyed her later years.
Effie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Aubrey Shipman, and her stepdaughter, Laura Shipman. She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly, including her Godchild, Leeann Plikuhn; her stepsons, John Shipman and his wife, Geralyn Shipman, whom Effie affectionately called her "daughter in love,", Aubrey Shipman, and many other family and friends.
She was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Sarah, Justin, Tamara, Riah, Rebecca, Brian, Brenda, Todd, Steven, and Stefan. Her family brought her immeasurable joy, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with them.
Effie was known for her fierce independence, unwavering faith, and loving heart. She found great comfort in her relationship with Jesus Christ and lived her life guided by His teachings. She had a special love for animals, especially cats and birds, and could often be found caring for and admiring God's creatures.
A passionate fan of the New Orleans Saints, Effie faithfully cheered on her team through every season. She enjoyed challenging her mind with word games and cherished the laughter, stories, and memories shared during family gatherings.
Those who knew Effie will forever remember her warm spirit, her resilience, and her favorite saying: "It is what it is what it is." While the phrase often brought smiles and laughter, it also reflected her practical outlook on life and her ability to face challenges with grace and acceptance.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort knowing she has been welcomed into the arms of her Savior and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
A Celebration of Life honoring Effie will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the home of her granddaughter, Sarah Shipman. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate the remarkable life of a woman whose faith, love, and strength touched so many.
